SKIING IN THE SIERRA NAVADA

LOCATION

Sierra Nevada is located in the Penibetic mountain range in Andalucia. It is Europe´s southernmost ski resort and is endowed with the Iberian peninsula´s highest summits, on a clear day it is easy to see Africa in one direction and a third of Spain to the north. The resort´s village, Pradollano is at an altitude of 2.100 meters.

SKI COURSES AND LIFTS

There are up to 61 km. of ski slopes with 45 pistes and 6 off-piste routes. There are 2 cable cars, 12 chair lifts and 5 ski lifts. Sierra Nevada has a vertical drop of 1.300 meters, and snow areas for all types of skiers, from beginners to experts.

The ski resort is open from 9 am . to 5 pm. although you can ski at night at weekends and bank holidays. Lifts are also open Friday and Saturday evenings for floodlit night time skiing. The season runs from December to April and, apart from the high season days of Christmas, Easter and half term, is very reasonable in cost.

Night Skiing: One of the Sierra Nevada´s most exciting features, night skiing was introduced in 1994 with lighting along the El Rio slope and the Slalom course. Skiing and lift schedules are established according to the time of sunset. However, a minimum of an extra two hours of skiing will be available along a freshly groomed course.

Snowboarding: Sierra Nevada is a  pioneer in snowboarding. An on-slope half pipe is being built for surfers, this will be available depending on snow conditions. Specialised snowboarding shops and schools are also available in the resort.

In addition to alpine skiing and snowboarding, Sierra Nevada offers many other winter sports including cross-country skiing, artistic skiing (ballet, jumps, moguls), telemark skiing, trekking and adventure skiing.

PRADOLLANO
Pradollano the ski village,offers a variety of services including quality hotels in a range of categories which include squash, workout areas, sauna, indoor swimming pools; ski lodges; apartments for sale and rental; restaurants featuring local Andalusian and international cuisine; tearooms; sundecks; night clubs, pubs and bars, discotheques, etc.

Sierra Nevada provides excellent customer service to guarantee its visitors an especially pleasant stay. A new medical centre, child day-care centre, ski rental, hairdressers, car rental, taxi service, pharmacy, church services, among others are available at the resort.

TRANSPORT
Granada has exceptional communication

By car from Marbella : Take the road N-340 direction to Málaga. Later you have to take the Antequera bypass and the N-331. When arriving at the crossing with the A-92, take A-92 in the direction of Granada and go by the bypass to Santa Fe . Now take the N-323 and the bypass to Ronda del Sur, Sierra Nevada and la Alhambra
