Located
in SW France
in
an area renowned for its beautiful scenery, excellent food and

These
lovingly restored holiday cottages are in a friendly farming community near
beautiful
Aubeterre on the Charente
Dordogne border about an hours drive from Bordeaux
or Bergerac airports or
30 minutes from Angouleme
airport or station.
A
bit further away but very usable are Limoges and Poitiers
airports.

Nearby
are the famous Vinyards of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cognac and the wine
capital of St Emilion.
Very
close to the river Dronne which has much to offer along its banks,
great restaurants,
pretty villages, a "sandy beach",
small
water park, fishing, canoeing etc.

The
sights of the Dordogne can easily be explored including mediaeval
towns like Perigueux,
the world famous painted caves and the weekly market at
Riberac.

Just
minutes away is Le Manoir de Longeveau a welcoming golf and tennis club with a
multi lingual creche.
There
are several horse
riding stables and lovely well marked walking trails in the area.
With its quiet roads and lanes
it is ideal for cycling.
There
are more challenging biking
trails nearby along with bike hire.
If
you enjoy good food there is a wide variety of excellent restaurants to choose
from,
the
nearest is less than 5 minutes away.
Montmoreau
5 minutes away has a new large supermarket,
bakers
and internet access.
A
good source of local information is the monthly free magazine Sortir
which

Le
Manoir de Longeveau
This
friendly Anglo - French club welcomes visitors. It is set in a stunning
valley designated in Michelin maps as a place of special
beauty.
There is a challenging nine hole
golf course with lessons available by arrangement, swimming
pools, indoor sports facilities and a delightful bar with wi-fi and restaurant, all open to the public. The Manoir is
owned by an English couple, Rick
and Lynne who organise
trips and outings which you can join. There are 3 floodlit tennis
courts, which can become busy in the high season.

Aubeterre
sur Dronne
In
the southern Charente, close to the Perigord, Aubeterre sits high up
above a bend in the river Dronne. Its charming narrow streets wind
through white stone houses and ancient buildings. Built in the shape
of an amphitheatre this former stronghold is now officially classified as one
of France's prettiest villages.
There
is a good variety of cafes and restaurants in and around the square.

Dronne
The
river marks the boundery between the Charente and the Dordogne.
At
Aubeterre there
is a safe sandy 'beach' with cafe, canoes or kayaks for hire.
You can be dropped off along the river and paddle back.

Chalais and La Roche Chalais at Parcoul is a small water park with
water slides, boating lake, crazy golf & other attractions

Chalais
Pretty
small town, Monday is market day when all the roads are closed to traffic.
Built
strategically on a hill dominating the town, is the Chateau du
Talleyrand, originally a medieval fortress, the draw bridge is still in
working order.
It now hosts exhibitions and
is one
of the best places to eat in the area. The Chateau restaurant, Relais de
Chateau, offers a gourmet menu and excellent service
at great prices. Book in advance.

This
is the Capital of the Charente. Geant
and Auchan hypermarkets are on the outskirts and 100’s of shops
and restaurants in the historic centre. In the Autumn look out for
the “ Circuit de Ramparts”, vintage motor cars from the 1920s
and 30s racing around the old
streets.

St.
Emelion This
beautiful medieval hilltop village is now a world heritage listed
site, full of shops showcasing a
number of local producers wine. There is a dotto train operating in
the summer to take you
around the town. There are numerous restaurants with something for
everyone.

Brontome
Known as the Venice
of the Charente this lovely riverside town is well worth a
visit, take a picnic to enjoy on the river bank. There are plenty of
play areas adjoining the river.
Close
by is the Grotte de Villars a network of underground caves
with impressive calcite formations together with prehistoric
paintings made some 17000 years ago.
Guided
45 minute tours are available April thru September,
from 10am - 7pm. The grounds have a children's play ground, a
picnic area and rambling paths.

Cognac
Lots
of choice of producers to visit. These are the showcase for the top
Brandy houses who offer interesting and well organised tours of
their premises usually by small trains.
